Job Summary
As an Animal Control Officer, you’ll respond to calls about animals in distress, investigate animal safety concerns, and ensure that local animal care laws are followed. You’ll work closely with shelters, law enforcement, and the community to support both animal welfare and public health.
Key Responsibilities
Rescue and Care for Animals
- Respond to emergency calls involving injured, stray, or neglected animals
- Safely capture and transport animals to shelters or veterinary care facilities
- Provide basic animal care, including food, water, and comfort
Community Safety and Law Enforcement
- Investigate reports of animal cruelty or safety violations
- Educate pet owners on local animal ordinances and proper care practices
- Issue citations or warnings when animal control laws are not followed
- Collaborate with police and emergency services when needed
Public Education and Outreach
- Help reunite lost pets with their owners
- Offer advice on pet care, vaccinations, and licensing
- Speak to the public about responsible pet ownership and animal safety
Support Shelter Operations
- Assist with feeding, cleaning, and monitoring shelter animals
- Support adoption services and help match animals with loving homes
- Maintain a clean and organized shelter environment

Qualifications
Required Skills
- Ability to safely handle animals in stressful or unsafe conditions

Preferred Skills

Education and Experience
- Education: High school diploma or GED required
- Experience: Experience in animal care or enforcement is preferred, but not required

Salary and Benefits
