The Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA) in San Diego needs a Clinical Social Worker. In this job, you will help people who are going through tough times. You’ll listen to them, give advice, and connect them to helpful services. You’ll work with families, individuals, and groups, helping them find ways to live healthier and happier lives.
Job Overview
As a Clinical Social Worker at HHSA, you will play a big role in making people’s lives better. Many of the people you’ll work with have problems with money, health, or family issues. Your job is to understand their challenges, help them find solutions, and connect them to other resources they might need. You will work with other helpers, like doctors and counselors, to make sure your clients get all the help they need.
What You’ll Do
Meet with People and Listen to Their Needs
- Talk with people to understand what they’re going through and figure out how you can help.
- Make a plan for each person based on what they need.
- Give support to individuals and families by listening and providing advice.
Help in Emergencies
- Be there to support people who need urgent help.
- Help people get resources, like food, shelter, or medical care.
- Work with other groups in the community to make sure clients get full support.
Keep Records and Work with Other Helpers
- Write down what you learn from each meeting and keep track of each person’s progress.
- Talk with doctors, other social workers, and community organizations to coordinate the best help for each client.
- Adjust plans as needed if clients’ situations change.
Teach Clients About Resources and Self-Care
- Tell clients about different programs and resources that can help them.
- Offer group sessions where people can learn about topics like stress management and self-care.
- Take part in community events to help spread awareness about mental health.

Bonus Skills
- Knowing Local Resources: It’s great if you already know about community resources in San Diego, like food banks, shelters, and job programs.
- Crisis Help Training: Experience in handling emergencies is a plus.
- Teamwork: Ability to work closely with doctors, nurses, and other social workers to give clients the best care.
- Computer Skills: Being able to use software to keep records and track information.
Education and Experience Needed
To apply, you should have:
- Education: A Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or a related field is required.
- Experience: At least 2 years working in social work or counseling, especially with those facing tough life challenges.
- License: You must be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California.
Where You’ll Work
You’ll work in San Diego County, California. This job will take you to different places within the county, like client homes, community centers, or hospitals. It’s a hands-on job where you’ll often be in the community helping people directly.
