About the Job
Do you want to help make your community healthier and safer? Public Health Services is looking for someone who cares about people and wants to improve public health in Harris County, Houston, Texas. We are hiring a Public Health Administrator to lead and manage health programs that help people in our area stay healthy.
As a Public Health Administrator, you will work to improve the health of everyone around you. You’ll make sure that health programs run smoothly, make sure people get the health services they need, and help others learn how to stay healthy. This is a full-time job, and it’s a great way to make a real difference in your community.

What You Will Do
As a Public Health Administrator, your job will include many important tasks. Some of your main responsibilities are:
- Managing Health Programs: You will help create and run programs that improve people’s health in our community.
- Working with a Team: You’ll work with other public health professionals and make sure everyone is doing their job well.
- Helping with Health Education: You’ll teach people about how to stay healthy, like how to avoid getting sick or how to live healthier lives.
- Managing Money for Health Programs: You will help make sure that health programs have the money they need and spend it wisely.
- Writing Reports: You will write reports to keep track of the programs you manage and show how well they are working.
- Helping During Health Crises: If there is an emergency, like a disease outbreak or natural disaster, you will help lead the response and keep the community safe.
What You Need to Be Good At
We are looking for someone who has these skills and abilities:
Required Skills
- Leadership Skills: You should be good at leading a team and making sure everyone works well together.
- Communication Skills: You need to be able to talk to people clearly, whether it’s in person, on the phone, or in writing.
- Problem Solving: You should be able to think of ways to solve health problems and find solutions that help people stay healthy.
- Organizational Skills: You should be able to handle many tasks at once, like managing different health programs and meeting deadlines.
- Public Health Knowledge: You need to know a lot about health issues, such as how to prevent diseases and how to keep people healthy.
- Managing Money: You should be able to keep track of money and make sure health programs are spending their budgets correctly.
- Using Computers: You should be able to use computers for tasks like writing reports, managing health data, and using health-related software.
- Teamwork: You should enjoy working with other people and be able to cooperate with different groups in the community.
Preferred Skills
It’s even better if you have these extra skills:
- Experience in Public Health: If you have worked in public health or healthcare before, that’s great!
- Knowledge of Health Laws: Knowing about the rules and laws that help keep people safe and healthy is a plus.
- Crisis Management: If you’ve ever helped during a health emergency, like a disease outbreak or natural disaster, that’s a big help.
- Grant Writing: If you know how to write grants to get money for public health programs, that’s a great bonus.
- Bilingual Skills: If you speak another language, like Spanish or Vietnamese, that can be very helpful.
Education and Experience
Here’s what you need in terms of education and experience:
- Education: You need a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or something similar. A Master’s Degree in Public Health or Healthcare Administration is even better!
- Experience: You should have at least 3 to 5 years of experience working in health programs or healthcare administration. If you’ve been in charge of a team or health program before, that’s a big plus.
- Certifications: If you have certifications like Certified in Public Health (CPH), that’s great, but it’s not required.
Where You Will Work
This job is based in Harris County, Houston, Texas. You’ll need to be able to work in the area and travel to different places for meetings and events when needed.
