Job Summary
The Substance Abuse Program Coordinator will be in charge of managing programs that help people who are struggling with substance abuse. This means you will work with a team to create programs that help people get the treatment and support they need to stop using drugs or alcohol. You will also make sure that the programs are working well and improving the lives of the people who use them.
You will help lead a team, work with other organizations in the community, and make sure everything runs smoothly. This job requires someone who is caring, organized, and can think of good solutions to problems.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities)
As a Substance Abuse Program Coordinator, your job will involve a lot of different tasks. Here are some of the things you will do:
1. Manage Programs
- Plan and organize substance abuse programs that help people with addiction.
- Make sure the programs are working well and meeting the needs of the people who need help.
- Work with your team to improve the programs whenever needed.
- Lead and support staff who are helping with the programs. You will help them learn what they need to do and answer their questions.
2. Work with the Community
- Build relationships with other organizations and healthcare workers to make sure people can get the help they need.
- Promote the programs to people in the community, so they know what help is available to them.
- Coordinate with other groups inside the HHSA to make sure everything works together and is as helpful as possible.
3. Help People Who Need Support
- Guide individuals to get the treatment and care they need.
- Support people going through treatment and recovery, making sure they feel understood and encouraged.
- Advocate for people in the programs, making sure they get the best services.
4. Keep Track of Program Progress
- Monitor how well the programs are working and how many people are using them.
- Write reports on the success of the programs and any changes that need to be made.
- Follow all the rules and regulations to make sure the programs are following the law and are doing things the right way.

To do this job well, you need to have certain skills. Here’s a list of the skills you will need for this role:
Required Skills:
- Good communication skills: You will need to talk to many different people, like your coworkers, people in the program, and other community groups. Being able to explain things clearly is important.
- Organization skills: You will be working on several things at once, so it’s important to stay organized.
- Problem-solving: Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and you will need to find good solutions.
- Leadership: You will be in charge of a team, so you need to be a good leader who helps others succeed.
- Empathy: You need to care about helping others, especially those who are going through tough times.
- Understanding of substance abuse: Knowing how addiction works and how to help people recover is very important.
Preferred Skills (Extra Skills That Are Helpful):
- Speaking another language: If you speak Spanish or another language, it can help you work with more people in the community.
- Experience with grant writing: Knowing how to get money to fund the programs can be a big plus.
- Understanding local resources: It’s helpful if you know what other support services are available in the community.
- Crisis intervention: If you have experience helping people in urgent situations, that would be very helpful.
Education and Experience
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Public Health, or a similar field is required.
- A Master’s degree in one of these fields would be a big plus.
Experience:
- You should have at least 3 years of experience working with programs that help people with addiction or similar issues.
- It’s also helpful to have at least 1 year of experience as a leader or in a role where you managed other people.

Salary and Benefits
Salary:
- The salary for this position is between $60,000 – $85,000 per year, depending on your experience and qualifications.
